APHB fails to fulfil its role: House committee

Hyderabad, Sep 1 (UNI) The House Committee today held the Andhra Pradesh Housing Board (APHB) responsible, for creating irregularities in auction and allotment of land, by letting commercial projects and Special Economic Zones hog the limelight, straying away from its objective of providing house at an affordable price to common people.

The recommendations of the House Committee, headed by Mr B Govardhan, were tabled in the Assembly, which included provision of houses and flats to low income and middle income groups directly by the Board.

While lands were being allotted at less than market price, the private companies were selling them at exorbitant rates, thereby making huge profit at the cost of the common man, it said.

Had the Board developed these projects directly, not only the Board but also the public would have benefitted, it noted.

It also recommended that either the Board should directly take up the projects or it should have control over sale price to be fixed by the private company.

In case of joint-venture projects, wide publicity should be given so that more and more companies are able to participate.
