Centre can play role if parties to Singur dispute desire; Kamal Nath

New Delhi, Aug 29 (UNI) Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath today said the Centre can play a role to facilitate resolution of the dispute over Tata Motors' Singur plant if parties to the dispute desire so.

But he said Tata Motors is not a party to the dispute which is between the government of West Bengal and a political party.

Trinamool Congress is agitating for return of 400 acres of land at Tata Motors' Nano car plant at Singur, alleging it was forcibly acquired.

West Bengal Congress chief P R Dasmunsi had, however, stated that the Centre had no role to play in the dispute as it was not a party to it. Mr Nath endorsed part of the statement, saying ''yes Centre is not a party to the dispute.'' But he maintained if the contesting parties desire it can play a role in resolution of the dispute.
