Road Inspector posts to be filled in phased manner: Minister

Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu Aug 17 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Highways Minister Vellakovil P Swaminathan said 800 posts of Road Inspector in the Highways Department would be filled in a phased manner from this year.

Talking to mediapersons here yesterday, soon after reviewing works being executed by the department, Mr Swaminathan said in the past two years, four out of eight posts of Chief Engineer were filled.

Similarly, 17 posts of Superintending Engineer out of 27 posts and 51 vacant posts of Divisional Engineer out of 120 posts were filled after the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(DMK) came to power. Of the 1,700 posts of Road Inspector, 800 were remaining vacant for long.

The Minister said steps were being taken to fill them by promoting road mazdoors and also through direct recruitment from the employment exchange. Works to the tune of Rs 159 crore had been taken up in the district, he added.
