Chakka jam in Assam on August 20
Guwahati, Aug 17 (UNI) The Assam chapter of the All India Road Transport Workers' Federation (AIRTWF) today called for a 24-hour chakka jam in the state on August 20.
The chakka jam will run parallel to the general strike called by the All India Trade Union on the same day, the AIRTWF Assam unit informed.
The strike has been called to press for the early passing of a bill for transport workers' welfare in Parliament, that includes measures for provident fund, medical insurance, pension and social security.
The Assam unit of the AIRTWF maintained that the road transport workers in the state were among the worst affected sections in the entire country, plagued by militant threats and miscreant problems, among others.
