President unveils statue of Bhagat Singh in Parliament House

New Delhi, August 15 (UNI) President Pratibha Devisingh Patil today unveiled the statue of Shaheed Bhagat Singh in Parliament House.

Several dignitaries including Vice-President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Jaswant Singh, Leader of the Opposituion in the Lok Sabha L K Advani, Union Ministers, Deputy Speaker Charnjit Singh Atwal, Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha K Rahman Khan, Members of Parliament, former Members of Parliament and other dignitaries attended the function at ourtyard No 5 and offered floral tributes at the statue of Bhagat Singh.

The statue, sculpted by Ram V Sutar, has been donated by the Lok Sabha Secretariat. It is the third statue donated by the Secretariat.

On the occasion, the President presented a shawl to the sculptor.

A booklet containing the profile of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, brought out both in Hindi and English by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, was also presented to all those who attended the function.
