Tight security blanket covers Jammu for I-D celebrations
Jammu, Aug 14 (UNI) A thick security blanket has been thrown over entire Jammu city in the wake of terror threats aimed at the Independence Day celebrations.
Troops of Army, Paramilitary forces and police have been put on alert following dozens of intercepts of communication between the groups of anti-national elements, an official spokesman told UNI.
''Security forces have been put on extra vigil following the warnings by the Army Intelligence that militants, taking advantage of prevailing unrest on the Amarnath land row, may execute grenade or IED blast to disturb Independence Day celebrations in the state,'' the spokesman said.
Troops of Army, BSF, CRPF and state police personnel have been deployed in the city and out skirting localities to ensure incident-free celebrations. ''Tight security cover has been thrown around the crowded places, like Railway Station, Airport and Bus Stand,'' the spokesman said.
People have also been cautioned to remain vigilant and cooperate with the security forces to thwart the designs of anti-national elements to disturb peace in the state.
Main function at the winter capital will take place at the Mini Stadium, Parade Ground, where Dr S S Baloria, Advisor to the Governor Jammu and Kashmir state, will hoist the national flag.
Meanwhile, the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (SAYSS) has decided to celebrate the day separately at various places in the winter capital.
