Raj Cabinet clears proposal for raising women's reservation quota

Bikaner, Aug 13 (UNI) Rajasthan Cabinet today approved the state government's proposal for raising the reservation quota for women in civic bodies from present 33 to 50 per cent and decided to amend the Rajasthan Municipalities Act for the purpose.

The proposal was put before the Cabinet during its meeting held here today, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rajendra Singh Rathore said.

Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje had announced her government's resolve to increase the women's reservation quota in Rajasthan Assembly during the budget session in March this year.

The reservation quota for women in Panchayati Raj institutions has already been raised to 50 per cent.

Besides this, the Cabinet has also decided to upgrade Jodhpur Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) as Jodhpur Development Authority(JDA) and change the names of Bikaner University, Rajasthan Agriculture University, Bikaner and Khetri Government College and these institutions would be named as Maharaja Ganga Singh University, Keshavanand Agriculture University and Swami Vivekanand Government College respectively.

The cabinet has also approved a proposal for payment of nine per cent interest to those pensioners whose pension payment settlements were delayed on procedural reasons.
