Police personnel injured in fresh violence in AP city
Vijayawada, Aug 6 (UNI) In fresh violence which errupted today, Deputy Commissioner of Police V V Raju, a Circle Inspector and some constables were injured in stone-pelting by miscreants here.
Police said the situation remained peaceful since morning but it turned violent when two groups came to the streets holding sticks and weapons, defying prohibitory orders under section 144 and started pelting stones at each other in the presence of police force.
When the police tried to control the miscreants they rained stones and bottles on them in which Circle Inspector Madhusudhan Reddy, the DCP and some constables were injured.
The miscreants also damaged autorickshaws, Public Telephone Booths and cycles. Residents of the area ran helter and skelter.
Later, Police dispersed the warring groups by lathis and took some persons into custody.
It may be recalled that the clash took place last night following elopment of a boy and a girl belonging to different faiths on Monday.
Educational institutions in the area remained closed today.
