SMS service suspended in Kashmir, rumour mongers active
Srinagar, Aug 5 (UNI) Rumour mongers are active in the Kashmir valley where the SMS service provided by Bharat Sanchar Nimgam Limited (BSNL) and other private mobile companies has been suspended.
The Rumour mongers are spreading false messages about the killing of Kashmiri drivers, attack on school buses and death due to security forces firing.
The media organisations, including this office, received a number of calls from different people since this morning as they wanted to know if the news about the death of six Kashmiri drivers was true.
Some people said there were reports that three bodies of Kashmiri drivers, who were killed by agitators in Jammu, had reached Pampore. However, others said the bodies had reached down town.
There were also rumousr about the attack on school buses in the city.
Parents rushed to the schools of their children and broght them back to home.
A number of callers wanted to know if two people had died due to police and security forces firing in the city.
Officials said these were just rumours spread by vested miscreants having vested interest and appealed to people not to get misled by these reports.
Please check about any news from the authorities, the officials said.
Meanwhile, all mobile service providers in the Kashmir valley had suspended their SMS service.
The move, the official said, was to curb the rumours being spread through these messages.
