Kochi, Aug 5 (UNI) The Kerala high court today quashed the entrance exam conducted by six self-financing medical colleges, which had entered into a contract with the state government.

Justice S Sirijagan declared illegal the test conducted on July 27 by the Karakonam CSI, Gokulam, Kannur, SUT, Karuna and MES medical colleges on the ground that the exam was not fair, transparent,merit-based and non-exploitative, as mandated by the Supreme Court.

The court also held that the regulations of the Medical Council of India (MCI) regarding the timing of the admissions were violated by the consortium.

According to the norms, the entrance test should have been conducted before May-end and the first phase of counselling should have been over by July 25.

The court order came on a petition filed by a student Fathima Haseena, challenging the test on the ground that it was against MCI regulations and violative of the apex court judgement prohibiting cross-subsidy.
