Centre team reviews situation in Jammu

Jammu, Aug 5 (UNI) A team from the Centre rushed to the violence-hit Jammu region to review the ongoing situation after the revocation of land transfer order of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, sources here today said.

''The Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta and Defence Secretary Vijay Singh were rushed yesterday by the Centre to Jammu after the State Government sought Centre Government's intervention in smooth passage of goods-laden trucks through Punjab,'' sources told UNI.

The sources however, said that during their visit, Mr Gupta and Mr Singh, accompanied by CRPF chief V K Joshi, interacted with officials of the Jammu and Kashmir Government and Army and took on the spot assessment of the volatile situation in the State which is witnessing unrest over the land controversy.

''The team after reviewing the situation with the senior State authorities headed by Principal Secretary, Home, Anil Goswami indicated that the Union Government is concerned over the Jammu situation,'' sources said and added that the Central team stressed for handling it keeping in mind no damage to life and property.

The Union Home Secretary asked the administration to ensure that communication links to all areas are kept through so, that essential supplies were maintained despite continuous bandhs and agitation.
