Prayers for sacrificed animals in Assam
Guwahati, Jul 30 (UNI) The People for Animal, an animal rights group, today prayed in the famous Ugratara temple here for the 318 animals sacrificed in the Kamakhya temple by the Samajwadi Party for success in the July 22 trust vote.
The People for Animal president Sangita Goswami said, ''318 lamps were lighted inside the temple for the soul of goats and buffaloes which were sacrificed by controversial Samajwadi Party MLA Kishore Samitre of Madhya Pradesh.'' She said the act was most tragic and barbaric done in the name of religion and politics. Several hundreds supporters had also taken part in the prayer.
After the cash for vote stigma in the no trust vote, the Samajwadi Party had sacrificed 318 animals in the past four days.
''Every day he is sacrificing goats and buffaloes with Sunday and Monday seeing the highest number, when 121 goats and two buffaloes were sacrificed each day,'' said a Kamakhya Debuttar Trust spokesman.
