Obama supports Pak's sovereignty and democracy
Washington, July 30, : Illinois Senator Barack Obama has voiced his support for Pakistan's sovereignty and democracy, in meetings with Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.
Gilani said "Pakistan does not require assurance of its sovereignty from the United States, but we 'should be happy in case such assurances were offered'."
Obama, the Democratic candidate running for the US Presidential post, met Gilani at the latter's hotel.
According to the Daily Times, Obama told Gilani during the meeting that the "only way we're going to be successful in the long term in defeating extremists is if we are giving the people opportunities."
"If people have a chance for a better life, then they are not as likely to turn to the ideologies of violence and despair," Obama further added.
