CPI-M concerned over ceasefire violation in Kashmir
Srinagar, Jul 30 (UNI) Expressing deep concern over the ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LOC), the Communist Party of India (M) today demanded an immediate stop of this misadventure.
The CPI(M) State secretary Mohammad Yousuf Targami said the violation, at a time when India and Pakistan were considering the resumption of trade through the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad route, was most unfortunate.
Mr Tarigami appealed to the leadership in India and Pakistan not to let the atmosphere vitiate further as it was bound to derail the peace process between the two countries.
''The violations, I am afraid, can exacerbate the ongoing impasse over Jammu and Kashmir and add to further tensions along the sensitive, fragile LOC'', he added.
Mr Tarigami said that instead of investing in misadventures leading to tensions, both India and Pakistan should invest their recourses in improving the lot of their people who constitute nearly a fifth of the worlds population.
He appealed to both Indian and Pakistani authorities to ensure the ceasefire was upheld and peace and tranquility maintained at the borders.
He emphasised that the need of the hour was to have meaningful Confidence Building Measures between the two countries and their implementation on the ground.
Ceasefire violations would only complicate Kashmir issue and this would have disastrous implications for the entire region, he added.
