Business and other activities paralysed in parts of Srinagar
Srinagar, Jul 28 (UNI) Business and other activities at Maisuma and other adjoining areas were paralysed today due to a strike in protest against the arrest of Peoples Political Party (PPP) chairman Hilal Ahmad War.
Shops and other business establishments in Maisuma, Gaw Kadal, Madina Chowk, parts of Budshah Chowk, Red cross road and Haji masjid area remained closed.
However, shopkeepers could be seen waiting outside their shops as they had to reopen their establishments after two days.
Life in other parts of the city, including nearby historic Lal Chowk was normal and traffic was plying normally.
Mr War was arrested by police on Saturday afternoon for threatening Bihari labourers and other workers, asking them to leave the valley by August 10.
Police was looking for him after a grenade blast at general bus stand, Batmaloo, in which five members of a Bihari muslim family were killed on July 24.
Mr War alleged that Bihari and other outsiders were involved in anti-social and criminal activities in the valley. However, he said doctors, engineers and students are welcome in the valley.
