9th anniversary of operation Vijay Diwas celebrated in J

Kargil, Jul 26 (UNI) To commemorate the victory of the 1999 Kargil war, the defence authorities today celebrated the ninth anniversary of operation Vijay Diwas.

A number of functions, organised by Dras brigade, were held to celebrate operation Vijay, the Indian answer to evict Pakistani intrusion in Dras, Kargil, Batalik and Turtuk Sectors in May 1999.

The main function was held at the Dras Memorial at the base of the famous Tololing feature.

The memorial has been constructed by the Army in the memory of the brave sons of the soil.

The function commenced with a wreath laying ceremony by the Commander Dras Brigade to the brave officers and soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice while fighting the enemy. Other senior military officers and civilian dignitaries also laid wreaths on the occasion.

The Commander Dras Brigade addressed the troops of Dras Garrison and called upon them to draw inspiration from the martyrs and rise to the challenges posed by the extremely inhospitable terrain.

The day is being celebrated as the last Pakistani intruder in the Kargil and Drass sector heights was pushed back across the Line of Control (LoC) on this day.
