Four policemen get two years imprisonment in jailbreak case

Vadodara, Jul 25 (UNI) Four suspended guards of the Sankheda sub-jail were sentenced to two years imprisonment in connection with the 2006 Sankheda Jailbreak incident.

Pronouncing the verdict yesterday, trial court judge J D Suthar, who found them guilty for dereliction of duty, also fined the convicts Rs 10,000 each.

On June 25, 2006, the four policemen were on duty when an inmate, Mangal Bhil, escaped through the skylight of the jail office as other inmates were out of their barracks to do their routine morning works.

The incident, however, came to light late in the evening following a head count. Four days after the jailbreak, Bhil was nabbed from Kledia village.

Pending an inquiry, the jail authorities placed the four guards, including a head constable, under suspension.
