New Delhi, Jul 25 (UNI) Historicals and Biopics based on lives of legendary personalities seem to be clearly in vogue on television these days more so following the success of 'Ramayan', 'Jai Maa Vaishno Devi' and, more recently, 'Kahaani Hamaaray Mahabhaarat Ki'.
Close on the heels of 'Jai Maa Vaishno Devi' and 'Kahaani Hamaaray Mahabhaarat Ki', 9X general entertainment channel plans to launch a television series on the life of firebrand political leader and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, channel sources said.
Channel sources said the series, to be aired on the channel by year-end, will follow the later Prime Minister's life as she is transformed from a gifted young girl to the most loved daughter of India -- an iconic and inspirational visionary who was destined to give her entire life to the Nation, channel sources said.
Speaking about the proposed epic television series, Founder and CEO of INX Media, Indrani Mukerjea, said,''the unprecedented series, 'INDIRA GANDHI' will be based on the story of the iconic, inspirational and extraordinary lady whose fate was entwined with the future of a billion people. The series, to be shot in Hindi and English, will present the story of Indira Gandhi as a daughter, wife, mother and leader. Our aim with this series is to be 9 times more dramatic, involving and inspirational; to present a life story that will captivate all viewers.'' Channel sources said the channel will bring in the best international technical experts in key areas, such as Direction, and will ensure that the series is seen widely across India and the world, they added.
''9X will produce this series of great global significance with the same kind of passion, love and care with which Indians have always followed the story of Indira Gandhi,''the channel sources said.
Closely associated with the project will be former Member of Parliament, Uttam Singh Pawar.
''I am proud to be closely involved with this project and will extend my complete cooperation and support to 9X for the creation and success of this series, which I believe will be a tribute to the great. Indira Gandhi,''Mr Pawar said.
The cast and the director for the TV series were being finalised and shooting for the serial would begin soon, the sources said.
The series on Indira Gandhi's life comes close on the heels of success of other epic series launched on 9X which includes 'Jai Maa Vaishno Devi' and, more recently, 'Kahaani Mahabhaarat Ki', being produced by Ekta Kapoor's Balaji telefilms.
