Site for medical college/hospital identified: Raja
Perambalur, Tamil Nadu, Jul 14 (UNI) The Perambalur District Administration has identified a 26-acre site at Odhiyam Village on the Perambalur-Ariyalur Highway for the proposed government medical college and hospital, according to Union Minister of Communications and Information Technology A Raja.
He told newsmen here yesterday after inspecting the site the construction work was expected to commence soon.
The land would be transferred to the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) in a week and higher officials from the directorate would inspect the area to ascertain its suitability.
As a full-fledged hospital is a pre-requisite for starting a medical college, the construction of the Government Headquarters Hospital would be immediately taken up for which a sum of Rs ten crore had already been sanctioned by the Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.
The buildings for the hospital and the college would be constructed in a year and, after clearance and approval from the Medical Council of India, students would be admitted to the college, Mr Raja added.
