Rehab centre for mastectomy patients in Kolkata

Kolkata, Jul 14: A Lymph Edema clinic- a rehabilitation centre for mastectomy patients, was unveiled here today, a first of its kind in eastern India.

The service offered in the clinic at B P Poddar Hospital and Medical Research Limited, will be free of cost and extended to patients who have undergone mastectomy, a surgery to remove a woman's breast.

Apart from the overall monitoring, the clinic will help in reducing the swelling that takes place after the operation.

Speaking on the occasion, actor Kaushik Ganguly said '' This Lymph Edema clinic is a part of bringing in a new hope among patients who have emotionally lost the battle against the disease.'' '' It is a small step in restoring lives that have succumbed because of lack of knowledge about the disease and its treatment,'' the actor said.

In india, nearly 80,000 women suffer from breast cancer. With the opening up of the clinic, all the pre-medical and post-medical treatments will come under one roof.
