WB: 9 ft long crocodile in Subarnarekha river
Sankrail(West Midnapur), Jul 14: A nine-feet long crocodile was today caught in Subarnarekha river by the villagers of Gardhara village under Sankrail police station in West Midnapur district.
The crocodile, believed to be carried by recent flood-waters from elsewhere, was found resting under a fishnet thrown by the villagers in the river. They immediately took the initiative of binding the legs and tying its jaws, before bringing it to the river bank.
The Divisional Forest Officer in Kharagpur was informed about the catch. It had been decided that the animal would be taken to the Deer Park in Jhargram and kept there for public view, sources said.
Meanwhile, hundreds of local people have thronged the river bank to have a glimpse of the crocodile.
