Chandigarh, Jul 11 (UNI) To meet the growing traffic demand, the Haryana government would add 1,000 new buses in the fleet of Haryana Roadways during the 11th Five Year Plan.

With this, the strength of the fleet of the roadways would increase to 4500 buses as against 3500 sanctioned buses, Haryana Transport Minister Mange Ram Gupta said today.

Mr Gupta said special thrust was being given towards providing intra-city transportation in the National Capital Region (NCR) towns and other district headquarters by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and the semi-low floor buses.

He said special emphasis was also being laid on the construction of multi-modal hubs and modern bus stands. Besides, renovation of all existing bus stands was being done to provide better amenities to the passengers.

The Transport Minister said the Haryana Roadways had a fleet of 3078 buses and these buses were being operated on 1511 routes and covering 10.54 lakh km daily while carrying more than 10.59 lakh passengers every day.

He said that Haryana Roadways had set up 90 bus stands all over the state at important places from the traffic point of view and a number of bus queue shelters had also been set up at small bus stops.
