Thangkabalu briefs Sonia on tasks to strengthen party
Chennai, July 10 (UNI) A day after assuming office, new Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) President, K V Thankgabalu called on Congress President Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi today and briefed her on the steps he proposed to take to strengthen the party, ending the chronic factionalism, in the state unit.
A party release here said Mr Thankgabalu met Ms Gandhi at her Janpath residence and held discussions for about 20 minutes.
During the meeting, the TNCC President informed Ms Gandhi that all senior leaders in the party wished him when he assumed office yesterday, including G K Vasan.
Those who greeted him included AICC Secretary K P Krishnamurthy, Union Ministers P Chidambaram, G K Vasan, outgoing TNCC President M Krishnasamy, Congress Legislature Party leader D Sudarsanam and party MP R Prabu, he said.
He also told Ms Gandhi that Union Ministers E V K S Elangovan and Manishankar Aiyer conveyed their wishes over phone, the release said.
Mr Thankgabalu also called on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and detailed him about the political situtation in the state. Mr Gandhi evinced keen interest in learning about Tamil Nadu politics, the release added.
