PMK to hold demo on closure of TASMAC liquor shops

Chennai, Jul 10 (UNI) Upping the ante for closing down liquor shops run by State-owned TASMAC, PMK Founder-Leader S Ramadoss today announced an agitation before liquor outlets on July 12 and 13 to press for their closure.

In a statement from his Thailapuram Residence, Dr Ramadoss, quoting a research report, said the number of drinkers was rising at an alarming rate with Tamil Nadu set to rise to the numero uno position from the current third in the list of liquor consumption states.

Though the shops cannot be closed at one go, shutters could be brought down on at least half of the vends. The remaining outlets can be closed gradually.

To press its demand for closing TASMAC shops, the PMK will hold an agitation on July 12 and 13 before the liquor vends.

The agitation will be organised and held mostly by women belonging to the PMK Womens Wing and Anti-Liquor Organisations.
