Indian Oil ranks 116 in 2008 Fortune 500 list
New Delhi, Jul 9 (UNI) Public sector unit Indian Oil Corporation continues to be the top ranked Indian company in the Fortune 500 firms as it jumped 19 places to rank at 116 in this year's list from its previous 135th place.
The list figures seven Indian firms with all of them improving their last year's performance. Tata Steel debuted the list at 315.
Reliance Industries Ltd secured the 206nd spot from its previous 269th rank, while Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd stood 287 from its earlier 325.
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd ranked 290, rising 46 places from 336.
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and State Bank of India (SBI) ranked 335 and 380 respectively.
World's largest retailer Wal-Mart has retained its number one position in the list, followed by Exxon Mobil, Royal Dutch Shell, British Petroleum and Toyota Motors.
