DMRC to build multi-level parking at 3 stations to ease parking woes

New Delhi, July 9 (UNI) In an endeavour towards easing parking woes in Delhi, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC)plans to build multi-level parking lots at three of its stations, a DMRC spokesperson said today.

Tenders have been invited by the DMRC from prospective builders to build multi-level parking at Janakpuri (West), Rohini (West) and Pitampura Metro Station, its spokesperson Anuj Dyal said.

The building of the parking lots is aimed at easing the parking problems being faced by people in these areas, especially daily commuters at the Metro stations.

''The present parking lots at all the three locations are fully crowded and all the three locations are located close to important commercial hubs such as the Janakpuri District Centres among others.

The Rohini (West) location has over 100 housing colonies near it and the retail sector is also moving here, while Pitampura also has a lot of commercial activities in the neighborhood. All the three stations have around 14,000 to 16,000 commuters to use the station daily already,''Mr Dyal said.

The DMRC will create multi-level parking which can accommodate about 800 cars at Janakpuri (West), 550 cars at Rohini (West) and 400 cars at Pitampura station. Provision will be there for accommodating two wheelers within the above limits.

Mr Dyal said the Metro is planning to open similar multi-level parkings at other stations also in the future in a phased manner.

The approximate parking area at Janakpuri (West) metro station is 8500 sq m, Rohini (West) 7500 sq m and Pitampura 3500 sq m.

Metro aims at selecting a developer through a competitive bidding process to set up these multi-level parkings and the bidder will get a concession to run the same for 30 years.

In addition, the bidder can also do commercial development by setting up activities like shopping malls or Hypermarket/Shopping Plazas/Shopping Complex or Retail Showrooms for consumer goods/ Garments/Electronics or Restaurants or Food Courts/Supermarket/ Department Store or ATMs or Multiplex without cinemas/office buildings.

''He will have to provide minimal or essential public convenience say five urinals, two WC, three washbasins with mirror, one ladies toilet with washbasin (mirror) and 4 drinking water fountains to be provided in the parking facility, apart from those in the commercial space,''the spokesperson said.

The parking will be either manual, semi-automatic or fully automatic. In manual parking or elevated parking, the depth/height will not exceed three floors. In semi-automatic, the retrieval time for the parking will be less than five minutes while in fully automatic it will be three minutes. The choice of the type of parking to be constructed will be with concessionaire.
