Srinagar, Jul 8 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today made a fervent appeal to the people of the state to remain calm and help in restoring peace and normalcy in the region.

Interacting with delegations representing various segments of the society, the Governor exhorted leaders of different political parties and social organisations to display their time-tested sagacity and redouble their efforts to bring about harmony which, he stressed was imperative at this crucial juncture when the State is treading the path of development after having suffered the onslaught of violence and terrorism for nearly two decades.

An eleven-member National Conference legislators' delegation from Jammu, let by Provincial President, Ajay Sadhotra urged the Governor to ensure adequate arrangements for pilgrims visiting Jammu, the City of Temples, which is the gate-way to the two important pilgrimages of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi and Shri Amarnathji.

They said the traditional hospitality of the people of Jammu has remained unmatched and the local citizens have always come up on such occasions for providing shelter to those in distress, even during the most testing times.

Responding to the suggestions made by the delegation from Jammu, the Governor reiterated that restoration of peace and ensuring the welfare of all sections of the society is top on Government's agenda and sought the cooperation of one and all in restoring normalcy. He stressed that peace is imperative for the development and prosperity of the State.

Mr Vohra also had an interaction with Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz, Union Minister and President, Jammu Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, which was followed by his meeting with a delegation comprising Ghulam Hassan Mir and Hakim Mohammed Yaseen, both former Ministers.

Earlier, the Governor held separate meetings with Chief Secretary, S S Kapur, and Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda, and discussed with them various important matters.
