2 associates of Gawli remanded to police custody

Mumbai, Jul 5 (UNI) A special court today remanded Subhas Upadhyay and Suresh Patil, associates of gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli, to police custody till July 17 for their alleged involvement in Shiv Sena corporator Kamalkar Jamsandekar's murder case.

Upadhyay surrendered himself before the Saki Naka police station late last night, as his name figured in the police diary for his alleged involvement in the case. The Crime Branch sleuths took his custody this morning.

Upadhyay, along with co-accused Suresh Patil was produced before Maharashtra Control for Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) Judge Y D Shinde, who remanded both of them to police custody till July 17.

Investigating officer Ashok Duraphe told the court that during the investigation, it was found that Subhas Upadhyay was present at the spot of crime.

Other accused include Arun Gawli, Matka King Prakash Sawla, Dinesh Narkar, Srikrishna Gurav alias Babu, Vijay Kumar Giri, Narendra Giri, Anil Giri, Ashok Jaiswal, Sahebrao Bhintude, Sadashiv Surve, Surendra Panchal and Sandeep Dongan.

They were booked under section 302 (murder) of Indian Penal Code (IPC), 3 (1)(ii), 3 (2), 3(4) and 4 of MCOC Act and 3 and 25 of the Arms Act.
