ISKCON chariot inaugurated by Priya rolls on in Kolkata
Kolkata, Jul 04 (UNI) Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi flagged off the ISKCON chariots and swept the road with a golden broom as the Rathyatra was celebrated with fervour in West Bengal today.
Devotees and onlookers lined up on either side of the roads as the ISKCON chariots rolled on amid singing of kirtans and beating of cymbals.
The chariots, which started from Chittranjan Avenue in Central Kolkata, ended journey at Park Circus in the southern part of the city.
Traditional households in the metropolis took out their own chariots. Children took to the street pulling small wooden chariots.
Like previous years, lakhs of devotees attended the Rathayatra at Mahesh in Hooghly district the venue for the oldest chariot festival in the state.
Fairs on this occasion were also organised in various parts of the city and elsewhere in the state.
