Chandigarh, Jul 2 (UNI) Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) today made an agreement with OSRAM India Private Ltd for the implementation of Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL) Distribution Project in Sonipat and Yamuna Nagar district.

The agreement was signed by UHBVN Managing Director AK Singh and OSRAM Managing Director Gagan Mehra as per the guidelines of Union Government's Bureau of Energy Efficiency.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Singh said the UHBVN would support OSRAM in Yamuna Nagar and Sonepat districts with manpower and marketing measures for implementing the project. OSRAM will benefit from Certified Emission Reduction units generated from the project.

The project involves the distribution of about 5,40,000 long life Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) to each household in the two districts.

The project, to be launched by the end of this month, will lead to considerable electricity consumption savings in the households that take part in the project. The project will therefore lead to reduced consumption of fossil fuel-based generated electricity and thus reduce GHG emissions, he said.

He said that the UHBVN also plans to make an agreement for Rohtak, Jhajjar and Panipat districts in the second phase.
