Cong could have fared better in civic board election

Kolkata, Jul 2 (UNI) Information and Braodcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi today asserted that the Congress could have fared better, in the civic board election had the ''Mahajot'' among the Opposition parties materialised.

Reacting to the election results of the civic boards in which the ruling Left Front had suffered a severe setback conceding five seats to the Opposition, Mr Dasmunsi, also the state party president, said, ''Whereever the Trinamool Congress will seek our help in forming board, we are ready to extend our support.'' ''The Congress and the Trinamool Congress will come closer to bring a secular front in power in the state,'' he opined.

The Front lost Guskara, Dalkhola, Dubrajpur, Habra and Midnapore but managed to retain Mekhliganj, Balurghat, Chakda, Panihati and Bardhaman.
