Agitators attack Congress MLA's house in Kathua, J
Jammu, Jul 2 (UNI) The agitators, protesting Jammu and Kashmir government's decision to revoke the order of transfer of land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), today attacked the house of a Congress MLA in Kathua district, official sources here said.
The violent mob, agitating for the third consecutive day, shouted anti-government slogans while marching towards the residence of MLA Girdhari Lal Chalotra and pelted stones.
''The angry protestors pelted stones and broken the window panes of the MLA's house but no one inside the building got injured,'' a senior police official told UNI.
Hundreds of protestors also took to the streets in different parts of the Kathua district including Barnoti, Palli and Channi.
Meanwhile, the police resorted to lathicharge and fired teargas shells to disperse the agitators, police said adding that the protestors led by some political activists also blocked the Jammu-Kathua National Highway.
''The protests in Jammu region have taken an ugly turn as police had to resort to baton charge where 12 people, including two policemen, suffered injuries and there was an immediate need of curfew in the affected areas to normalise the situation,'' police asserted.
