Panchayat member booked for raping minor girl

Moga, Jun 27 (UNI) A Shiromani Akali Dal leader and newly elected panchayat member Piara Singh has been booked for allegedly raping a minor girl in Dhilwan Wala village under Baghapurana sub-division in the district.

According to police sources, the mother of 17-year-old victim yesterday informed the police that the panchayat member, who lives in her neighbourhood, entered her house when her daughter was alone and allegedly raped her. After raping the girl the accused threatened her of dire consequences if she reported the matter to her mother or to the police.

However, when the mother came back the girl narrated the whole incident. Her mother along with a close relative reported the incident to the police.

Police got the victim medically examined yesterday and raided the house of Piara Singh but he gave a slip to the police party.
