Wild elephant population swells in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 26 (UNI) Wild elephant population in Kerala has increased to 6,068 from 5,135 durng the last two years, the State Assembly was informed today.
In a written reply, Forest Minister Binoy Viswom said the government had succeeded in checking poaching and only 350 cases had been registered against poachers.
He said about 625 domesticated elephants had been registered in the state and adequate measures taken for their upkeep.
Mr Viswom also said that 11 people had been killed in 21 elephant attacks during festivals in the state this year.
