Septuagenarian Theater personality Renukamma Murgod passed away

Bangalore, Jun 26 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today condoled death of renowned theater, Cinema and small screen soap artiste septuagenarian Renukamma Murgod, who died in Murgod in Belgaum District of Karnataka yesterday.

In a condolence message here, the Chief Minister said Ms Renukamma's death is a great loss to theater as well as cinema field.

Renukamma, who began her theater career at her teen age (13), was at her peak during country's freedom struggle. She had acted in several films including Shabdavedhi, in which she played the role of mother of Dada Saheb Palke Awardee late Rajkumar. Her last film was Mandaar Hoove, which starred Shivrajkumar, late Rajkumar's eldest son.

The Gubbiveeranna award winner had suffered paralysis attack while the shooting of a film eight months ago in the city. She was taken to her home town at Murgod in Saundatti taluk of Belgaum.

Since then, her unmarried brother Shankar had been taking care of her.

She was staying at Murgod in a artistically designed hut by using musical instruments.

Shankar said that since last 15 days Renukamma was surviving on liquid food and for the past three days, she had almost slipped into a coma, unable to injest any solid or liquid food.
