HP Governor calls for preserving enviornment

Shimla, Jun 22 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Governor V S Kokje said global warming was the biggest threat that humankind had ever faced and there was a need to generate mass awareness towards creating green and clean environment.

He was speaking as Chief Guest on the occasion of Ozone Green Awards Ceremony and Pratibha Manch Cultural Evening organised by the Ozone Group of Companies here last evening.

He said that respect for environment was very much a part of the Indian culture, that's why, Indians worship trees, mountains, rivers, the sun and the moon.

He said that natural resources play a very important role in Indian rituals and the age-old beliefs.

The Governor appreciated the efforts of Ozone Group of Companies for instituting the Ozone Green Awards for encouraging media reporting on environmental issues. He also appreciated the relentless efforts of the media in bringing forth the urgent need of solutions for environmental disasters.

Mr Kokje gave away Ozone Green Awards to various print and electronic media houses working in Himachal Pradesh including the state department of Information and Public Relations in recognition of their efforts in highlighting environmental issues.

Winner in print media category was Hindustan Times and runners up were the Pioneer and Indian Express. Winner in electronic media category was Doordarshan Kendra, Shimla and runners up were Zee Himachal and Zee News. Winner in audio category was department of Information and Public Relations while the runner up was All India Radio, Shimla.

He also gave away awards to the department of Language, Art and Culture for best kept monument by state and Best Preserved Traditional Form of Art.

A film on Global Warming was also screened on the occasion.

A traditional colourful cultural programme was also presented by Rajasthani and Himachali artists of Pratibha Manch, which is a forum, provided by the Ozone Group to recognise those who excel in traditional forms of art.

Mr S C Sehgal, CMD, Ozone Group of Companies presented a detail of the activities of the group.

Mrs Rama Pandey, renowned media personality and Coordinator, Ozone Green Awards and Pratibha Manch welcomed the Governor.

Mr S K Gupta, Vice Chancellor, Himachal Pradesh University, members of jury of awards, mediapersons, eminent citizens of the town were present on the occasion.
