Bhopal, June 18 (UNI) Heavy rain played havoc in northwestern Madhya Pradesh where eight people were killed and four injured in rain-related incidents in the past 24 hours.
Five people were killed and four injured in separate incidents in Morena, while three people died in similar incident in Gwalior even as normal life was thrown out of gear with heavy rainfall causing traffic jams.
Rasule (55) and his two sons Seki (13) and Shaukeen (10) were sleeping in their house when the wall of their neighbour Ramdayal Rathore's house collapsed on them this morning at Mahuagadi village in Morena.
All the three died in the incident, while Ilahi (75) was injured and admitted to Porsa hospital.
In a separate incident, Ramwati (60) and Shakuntala (8) were killed when a stone slab in their house fell suddenly on them last night at Bharatpura near Dharamgadh village in Morena.
Preetam (8), Kajal (10) and Kamla (35) were injured during the incident and admitted to hospital.
In Gwalior, three children and a woman were killed on the spot when the wall of an adjoining building fell on their house in Bahodapur police station area yesterday afternoon.
During intermittent rains, the wall of one Santosh Shukla's house fell on the house of Meera Batham killing four people.
Meanwhile, incessant rains caused waterlogging in low-lying residential areas. River and nullahs were overflowing, while water level of Sindh, Mahuar and Pachawali rivers escalated.
An overflowing nullah obstructed traffic at Shivpuri-Narwar road.
Building material of an under construction bridge fell on diverted route and blocked it.
Monsoon was active in Madhya Pradesh's northern region causing rainfall in Gwalior and Chambal divisions. Other places witnessed cloudy sky and sporadic rains.
