MP govt ayes amounts for MISA detenues

Bhopal, Jun 17 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh government today approved the Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan (MISA/DIR Political Detenues) Samman Nidhi Rules-2008.

The approval came at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan here, an official release said.

The Samman Nidhi would be given only to those who were detained under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) or DIR between June 26, 1975 and March 1977 and who had been associated with a political party or social or religious institutions. Those detained for anti-social or criminal activities would not be entitled.

Nidhi of Rs 3,000 per month would be given to political prisoners jailed for one to six months and Rs 6,000 per month to those detained for more than six months. The benefit would be with effect from April 1, 2008.

In case a person detained under MISA/DIR for political commitments died before April 1, 2008 then the spouses would be entitled to the Nidhi on application.

The first distribution of the Nidhi would be at district-level functions on June 26, the date when the emergency was imposed. The Nidhi amounts from April 1 to June 30, 2008 would be distributed in lump sum.

In case of procedural delay, the amounts would be given on the Independence Day. Subsequently, the amounts would be payable on the first of every month.

Eligible people would get all medical facilities available to people living below poverty line, the release added.
