Hyderabad, Jun 16 (UNI) Congress candidate H Peer Shabeer Ahamad is likely to get elected unanimously to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council as he was the only one to file nomination for the MLC by-election, for which the deadline ended today.
State Haj Committee Chairman, Ahamad had filed the nomination for the MLC seat which fell vacant following the resignation of A Abdur Rahman to press the Centre for carving out a separate Telangana state.
After scrutiny on June 18, the Congress candidate is likely to be declared elected if his papers are found in order, State Chief Electoral Officer I V Subba Rao told reporters here today.
The by-elections to fill the vacancies caused by the resignation of two other TRS members Dilip Kumar and R Satyanarayana from the Graduates Constituencies, would be held before September, he added.
After the recent by-elections to the state assembly, the strength of the TRS further depleted, with its nominees losing nine of the 16 sitting MLA seats.
