Powerloom bandh agitation passes off peacefully in Ichalkaranji
Kolhapur, Jun 16 (UNI) Barring few incidents of minor stone pelting on the Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses, the bandh agitation, called by Powerloom Association, in Ichalkaranji town of the district today passed off peacefully.
The Association called the bandh protesting against non-fulfilment of their demands, which included stability of yarn rates and its inclusion in essential commodities among others. It was supported by all political parties except Congress.
Earlier in the day, powerloom owners, workers and various political leaders staged a 'dharna' in Janata chowk to draw the government's attention towards their demands.
Later in the afternoon, they marched to the Ichalkaranji sub-divisional officer's office and submitted a memorandum of their demands to SDO.
