Pourakarmikas in Mysore on strike, sanitation and cleaning affected
Mysore, Jun 16 (UNI) More than 500 Pourakarmikas of the City Corporation began an indefinite strike today affecting sanitation and cleaning of the City.
The agitators, pressing for their various demands, staged dharna by holding boom sticks.
State Pourakermikas Federation President B Pedane said that there were more then 36,000 permanent Pourakarmikas and 28,000 contract Pourakarmikas working in various Corporations and Municipalities.
The demands included immediate payment of wage arrears as recommended by the fifth Pay Commission, those involved in drainage works should be provided training and Insurance of Rs 10 lakhs each to these employees should be made by the Corporation.
The PF and ESI money pertaining to contract Pourakarmikas should be credited in their names besides they should be provided special uniforms every year during the Dasara festivities.
He warned that the agitation would be intensified further if the demands were not fulfilled.
