Dead Delhi businessman's family seeks CBI probe
New Delhi, Jun 15 (UNI) The family members of Delhi businessman, allegedly killed by police brutality, today demanded a CBI probe into the incident.
Wife of Nirmal Singh, Kiran Bala claimed that since police were protecting their own men, a CBI probe could pin down the culprits.
In a memorandum to the National Commission for Minorities, the members said a CBI probe was a must.
The family members handed over the memorandum to NCM member Harcharan Singh Josh who met them.
On Friday last, Singh was allegedly beaten to death by policemen after, he resisted arrest in a cheque bounce case. Senior police officials, however, denied the charge. The family of the 45-year-old said the cops, one in plain clothes and two in uniform, came to their Vishnu Garden home to arrest him citing court orders.
The policemen-sub-inspector Ram Niwas, head constable Rambir, and constable Naresh- were accompanied by the complainant Ashok, on whose plea the court issued a non-bailable warrant against Singh after a cheque worth Rs 28,500 bounced.
The family alleges that the policemen barged into the house and beat Singh mercilessly after he asked them to show arrest warrant.
