Landslides claim fourteen lives in Arunachal Pradesh
Itanagar, June 14 : At least 14 people were killed and 30 injured in landslides triggered by incessant rains at different places in Itanagar on Saturday.
Four members of a family died when a huge mass of earth fell on their hut situated on the slope of a hill this morning.
"So far we have recovered 14 dead bodies from three different locations, including six from the heart of capital Itanagar. Most of the victims died after hillocks caved in on their houses," Bidul Payeng, District Magistrate of Pamumpare, said.
At least 30 people were injured in the landslides. "The death toll could mount as the condition of at least ten of the injured was stated to be critical," the official said.
Other fatalities were reported from different places of Neharlagun, the old state capital area.
