Jewellery loot kingpin arrested; jewellery worth 70 lakhs recovered
Sambalpur, Jun 13 (UNI) The police have recovered gold and diamond ornaments worth over Rs 70 lackhs looted from the ''Jewellery World'' here in February last and arrested three persons including the kingpin from Jharkhand.
The three accused produced before the media today by Sambalpur Superintendent of Police Sanjaya Kumar, confessed their crime.
A special team of the Sambalpur police constituted to nab the dacoits involved in the jewellery looting, arrested them at Bokaro in Jharkhand.
They were brought on remand for further interrogation and produced before the local court here.The accused included kingpin Subash Barman and two others-Sujit Sao and Rajendra Singh.The police team also recovered a 32 bore licenced revolver from them.
The SP said hard labour for 27 days by police officers from Sambalpur and Rourkela yielded results adding that the police were hopeful of recovering the looted ornaments sold at different parts of the country.
Sources said the gang had looted diamond,gold and other ornaments worth over Rs 1.5 crore from the jewellery shop at gun point in broad day light and managed to flee from the scene five months back.
Since then the police were on lookout and raided several places both inside and outside the state to nab the gang.
