Orissa Govt reduces Sales tax on Petrol and Diesel

Bhubaneswar, Jun 06 (UNI) In a bid to lessen the burden on the consumers, the Orissa government today decided to reduce sales tax on petrol and diesel.

As per the decision of the state government, the petrol per litre would be cheaper by 86 paise, while diesel will now cost 64 paise less per litre.

Official sources said the tax on the petrol and diesel would be now reduced from 20 per cent to 18 per cent as the government agreed to reduce prevalent tax rate by ten per cent.

The new rate, sources said, would be made effective from tomorrow.

The state government, sources said, would forgo a revenue of nearly Rs 100 crore following the reduction of sales tax on petrol and diesel.

The government claimed that sales tax on petrol and diesel in Orissa was lthe owest in comparison to other big states in the country.
