Minister opts cycling to reach office, protests petro price hike

Patna, Jun 06 (UNI) Bihar food and civil supply minister Narendra Singh today opted to ride cycle to his office to protest price hike of petroleum products.

Curious onlookers and passerbys greeted Mr Singh as he cycled from his official residence at Strand Road to the Patna Secretariate. His supporters and personal security guards were also accompanying him when he opted for the unusual mode of transport.

''I have tried to give a message to minimise the consumption of petrol and diesel by cycling to the office,'' Mr Singh, the senior JD(U) leader, said.

''On one hand the Centre had increased the price of petrol and diesel, while on the other the Nitish Kumar government tried to lessen its effects on the people in Bihar by reducing the sales taxes on these two products'', Mr Singh pointed out.
