Mumbai riots: 12 acquitted for lack of evidence
Mumbai, Jun 5 (UNI) A local court today acquitted 12 people who had stood accused in the 1992-93 Mumbai riot cases.
The court acquitted the twelve, whose case was registered with the Vakola police here, owing to lack of evidence.
Metropolitan Magistrate R C Bapat-Sarkar acquitted Mohammed Nazir Mohammed Shaikh and eleven others of all charges. During the trials, four witnesses -- all of them police personnel -- were examined.
Following the demolition of Babri Masjid, riots had broken out in the metropolis. This particular case dates back to January eight, 1993. The twelve were then arrested for allegedly indulging in arson and rioting.
