Teenaged lovers in suicide pact in Chandrapur

Nagpur, June 2 (UNI) Two teenaged lovers allegedly committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance in Chandrapur district in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, police said today.

The teenagers, identified as Jitendra Vasant Meshram (18) and Mamata Shriram Madavi (16), consumed an insecticide at a farm on the outskirts of Warora in the district yesterday afternoon. While Mamata died on the spot, Jitendra breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a hospital, police said, adding that the cause of the suicide is not known, as they did not leave any note behind.

In fact, Jitendra called Mamata's father Shriram Madavi on the mobile telephone and told him that they had consumed poison at the farm, police said. Madavi rushed to the spot and took his daughter and the boy to hospital.

The two went missing on Saturday evening after leaving home on the pretext of going for their coaching classes. A search was launched when the two did not return home till late in the night, police said. Jitendra, studying in class XII, and the girl, who was in class X, had been in love for a while, police added.
