Seven get life imprisonment in seperate cases

Patna, May 26 (UNI) Altogether seven persons were awarded life imprisonment in two seperate cases while another was awarded seven years rigorous imprisonment today.

Additional District and Sessions Judge of Patna Vijay Prakash Mishra handed out life terms to five people in the much-hyped Shwetangi kidnapping case.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on each of the convicts.

The judge found Vijay Kumar Sinha, Sadre Alam, Pervez, Mohammed Nasar and Sunil Kumar Yadav guilty of kidnapping Shwetangi for extortion.

A seven year old girl and student of DAV school Shwetangi was kidnapped by the convicts from Patelnagar locality of Shashtrinagar police station area in the state capital when she was on the way to school with her father on August 8, 2003.

Later, she was rescued safely by the police from Chakradharpur locality in Jharkhand.

In a seperate case, Additional District and Sessions Judge Radheyshyam Prasad awarded life imprisonment to two people in a murder case.

The court found both the accused guilty of killing their co-villager Chandradev Yadav.

According to charges, the victim was shot dead by the convicts at Ramkrishna Nagar under Gaurichak police station area in the district on March 6, 2004, following some dispute.

In yet another verdict of the day, Additional District and Sessions Judge of Patna Ramshreshtha Rai found one Vinod Prasad of Vaishalu district guilty of culpable homicide and awarded him seven years rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 7,000.

According to the charges, the convict had killed his beloved without the intention of murder under Patrkar Nagar police station area of the state capital on March 15, 2002.
