Rain lowers mercury level in Kolkata

Kolkata, May 26 (UNI) Light showers this evening brought down the mercury level in the city, bringing the long needed respite to people of Kolkata.

Alipore Met office predicted partly cloudy sky for the next 24 hours with possibility of more rainfall later in the night.

Maximum temperature in the next 24 hours will be around 35 degrees Celsius.

The weathermen here recorded a maximum temperature of 34.7 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 27 degrees Celsius, with the maximum humidity being recorded at 89 per cent.

The northern part of the city recorded rainfall of 0.8 mm, while the southern part recorded about 0.2 mm.

The Met office has also issued a squall warning, with wind speed reaching between 50 and 60 kmph during next 24 hours.

For the remaining part of the state, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal experienced light rain while the Gangetic West Bengal received heavy rain.

Maximum temperature appreciably rose at many places in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and below normal at a few places in Gangetic West Bengl.

Moderate rain is expected to occur at many places over the districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Malda, North and South Dinajpur, Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Paraganas, East and West Midnapore, Bankura, Bardhaman, Birbhum, Purulia, Murshidabad and Nadia during the next two days.
